There has been a rise in the number of services for dog grooming, dog walking and holiday cover for pets over the last 10 or 20 years. If you are a dog owner than you will be very aware that you will need to look after your dog correctly ensuring he or she is given a well-balanced diet of tinned and dry food, daily fresh water, that he has somewhere comfortable to sleep and that he has regular exercise. However, sometimes this is not always possible. It might be that your job has changed or your hours of work have changed or maybe you have suffered a long bout of illness and are temporarily unable to care for your pet as much as you would like.
If this has become the case, then it is probably time to consider using a pet walking service. When you contact a service, do insist on meeting someone face to face for an introductory visit and don’t be afraid to ask for references. It’s important that your dog walker meets your pet and finds out his or her likes and dislikes and any behavioural quirks. Most dog walking services will walk dogs in pairs so that each dog has a doggy friend to run around with. Do make sure that your dog is matched with a suitable play companion and steer clear of services which may walk up to 4 or 5 dogs at a time, where your dog may not receive the attention that he needs and where he may feel very intimidated and stressed by other more aggressive dogs. On return to your home, a good pet walking service will make sure that your dog is clean from a muddy walk and will make sure he is well settled before leaving him.
