When dog bark it can become annoying not only to the owners, but also for the neighbours. Its ok for dogs to bark to warn of strangers or danger, but when they are barking for the sake of it, how do you get them to stop?
Language
Use a quiet calm but authoritative voice and say a simple “quiet” command. Once your dog finishes barking say good boy/girl and give them a treat. It is important to avoid treating whilst they are barking and they need to know the treat is because they have listened to the command and stopped.
Devices
There are devices on the market that claim to help with barking such as Anti bark collars and Ultra Sonic dog deterrents. These are worth a try if the barking can not be calmed with simple commands.
Professional Help
If your dog continues to bark after the two methods above then a professional dog trainer may be able to give you more help and advice.
