Sometimes when you go away on a family holiday, taking your dog is just not ideal or possible. Whether this is you are not staying in pet-friendly accommodation, or you are travelling abroad. Today, we are going to discuss with you the benefits of the two main pet holiday arrangments, Kennel vs Pet Sitting.
Kennels
Placing your dog into a kennel is one of the more popular choices for pet holiday arrangements. One of the main benefits of this option is that they will be given the care that they need by people who are trained to do so. You know you will be paying good money for their services so they will care for your dog and know what to do if they happen to become unwell.
On contrast, a kennel can be an extremely stressful situation for dogs. Going to a new place can put dogs under a lot of stress. Especially with kennels being so loud and noisy with a large number of dogs. Your dog may not be comfortable in this type of environment and suffer badly from separation anxiety with you being gone. You may also find that you dog isn’t always given the attention they desire as they have a large number of dogs to care for.
Pet Sitting
The idea of pet sitting is that you invite someone into your home that you trust to look after your dog. This can be them living in your home for the holiday period. Or you can give them a key to visit daily in the morning and evening for dog duties.
One of the main benefits of asking someone to pet sit for you is that your dog is being left in an environment that they are comfortable in. They are not being taken away from their home, helping to lessen the amount of stress they are under.
However, you need to have strong trust in someone to allow them to come into your home whilst you are not there. You never know what they will do whilst you are away.
