Pet Care

It is thought that there are over 7 million dogs in the UK and many of them are bought for company and as family pets for the whole family to love and enjoy. There are many benefits and advantages to having a dog. Making sure that your pet dog remains happy is one of the chief responsibilities of every pet owner, right up there with keeping them healthy. They often go hand in hand, as one of the best ways to keep them happy is…

It goes without saying that if you want a well-behaved dog, then you will need to put the work in to train him and then make sure you are consistent at all times with your pet.

Do not allow your dog to take scraps from the family when you are all eating at the dining table. If your dog knows that this may happen, then he is likely to beg and pester you for food at all opportunities. If your dog is a nuisance around the dining table, then make sure he is given his own food in a different place from the family and keep him out of the dining room.

Most animals can’t resist helping themselves to food if it is available so make sure your dog doesn’t get the opportunity to steal food from the table or from a kitchen work surface. If your dog just can’t resist the temptation, then make sure you keep him away from food preparation areas and that you never leave food unattended when he is around. A stair gate can be useful to keep your pet out of the kitchen.

No doubt your dog may love chewing on bones, especially those with rewarding marrow in the middle. It is natural for your dog to chew and for young puppies, chewing and using the mouth is a way to explore the world and learn about the many interesting objects in it. However, you will not want your dog chewing your new shoes or the cushions in your lounge or the legs of the coffee table, for instance. When you find your dog chewing something that he shouldn’t be chewing, then you need to distract him with a toy or a bone which he is allowed to chew, making sure you remember to offer praise at the same time.
